Karachi: One of the largest robbery incidents of the year was reported in Karachi, where armed assailants looted gold jewelry weighing 200 tolas and US dollars worth $100,000 from a citizen moments after he arrived at his residence.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on February 3 in the Bahadurabad area’s Faran Society. The victim had reportedly returned home after withdrawing the valuables from a bank locker when four armed men riding two motorcycles entered the garage as the gate opened and forcibly took the jewelry and cash.
The victim attempted to pursue the suspects, who reportedly lost balance while crossing a large speed breaker at high speed, causing the stolen jewelry to scatter on the road. However, upon noticing nearby security guards and watchmen, the suspects fled the scene, leaving behind part of the loot.
Police arrived promptly and took the recovered jewelry into custody. Officials said approximately 90 percent of the stolen gold was recovered, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
A case has been registered, with the total value of the stolen gold and cash estimated at over Rs130 million, according to the FIR.
