In a recent study, scientists have explained how much sleep is necessary to help prevent type 2 diabetes.
According to Diabetes UK, 90 percent of the 4.6 million patients in the United Kingdom are suffering from type 2 diabetes, a condition in which the body does not produce sufficient insulin.
Major causes of the disease include obesity and high blood pressure, but lack of sleep also plays a significant role in insulin resistance.
A study published in the journal BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care stated that sleeping seven hours and 18 minutes every night is necessary to help prevent the disease.
Professor Naveed Sattar from the University of Glasgow said that poor sleep disrupts appetite control, causing people to eat more, and getting less sleep also means having more time to eat.
