According to a new study by Swansea University in the United Kingdom, the dietary habits of adolescents have a significant impact on their mental health and increase the risk of mental disorders.

‎The research, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, examined different dietary patterns to determine how they affect the mental state of young people, particularly depression and anxiety. Researchers analyzed a total of around 19 research reports.

‎The findings made it clear that a balanced, healthy, and nutrient rich diet is generally associated with better mental health, while an unbalanced and low quality diet is linked to increased stress and negative emotions.

‎According to experts, adolescents who consume fruits, vegetables, protein, and balanced foods tend to show better mental health outcomes, whereas those who consume more processed and unhealthy foods are more likely to suffer from mental health issues.

‎Researchers also pointed out that adolescence is a crucial stage of mental and physical development, during which diet plays an important and modifiable role. Therefore, promoting healthy eating habits can help improve the mental well being of young people.

‎The study emphasized that evaluating overall dietary patterns is more effective than focusing solely on individual nutrients.

‎However, experts also clarified that other factors such as socio economic conditions, lifestyle, and genetic influences may also affect this relationship, and further research on the subject is still needed.
