The Sindh government has approved the installation of a 6 million gallons per day (MGD) water treatment plant in Hyderabad, aimed at improving access to clean drinking water in the city. The decision was taken during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where several infrastructure and public welfare projects were also approved.

According to official details, the cabinet approved the allocation of 100 acres of forest land to the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the installation of the water filtration plant at Deh Bhelo Miano. The move is intended to address growing water shortages and improve water quality in Hyderabad, where access to safe drinking water remains a major issue.

The 6 MGD capacity means the facility will be able to treat up to six million gallons of water daily, significantly boosting supply for urban areas. Authorities say such projects are crucial as Hyderabad faces increasing population pressure and aging water infrastructure.

The approval is part of a broader set of development initiatives announced by the Sindh cabinet, which also included major road projects in Karachi and other infrastructure improvements across the province.

Officials believe the new plant will help reduce reliance on unsafe water sources, improve public health, and strengthen municipal services in Hyderabad, one of Sindh’s largest cities.
