A new United Nations (UN) report says artificial intelligence (AI) could become a powerful engine of global economic growth, boosting productivity, improving healthcare, advancing education, and accelerating scientific innovation. However, the report warns that without proper regulation, AI could also increase inequality, displace millions of jobs, and widen the digital divide.
According to the report, AI has the potential to reshape industries and improve public services, but its benefits may remain concentrated in a handful of countries and major technology companies unless governments adopt inclusive policies. The UN urged nations to invest in digital infrastructure, workforce training, and international cooperation to ensure AI development benefits everyone.
The report also called for stronger global governance of AI to address risks such as misinformation, algorithmic bias, privacy concerns, cybersecurity threats, and excessive market concentration.
