Police in Lahore took a 22-year-old woman into custody Tuesday, hours after the body of her 75-year-old grandmother was discovered in their family home in Gulberg.
Officers arrived at the residence following a distress call from neighbors who reported hearing a struggle. They found the elderly woman, later identified as Salma Begum, unresponsive in the bedroom with clear signs of blunt force trauma.
The granddaughter, whose name has not been released by authorities pending further investigation, was present at the scene when police arrived. She was detained immediately. Investigators suggest the motive may be linked to a long-standing property dispute that had recently intensified between the two.
“We are currently processing the scene and gathering forensic evidence,” said a senior police official familiar with the investigation. “The suspect is being held at the local station, and we are questioning other family members to establish a clear timeline of events.”
The incident has shaken the quiet residential neighborhood. Neighbors described the relationship between the two as strained, noting frequent arguments in the weeks leading up to the tragedy.
The suspect is expected to appear in court tomorrow for a remand hearing. For now, the house remains cordoned off as investigators continue to piece together what led to the fatal confrontation.
The investigation is ongoing, and police say they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.
