The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), through its Directorate of Aviation Security & Facilitation, has launched a specialized Threat and Risk Training program at Islamabad International Airport in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport .

The training program has brought together professionals from across Pakistan’s aviation sector, including representatives from the PCAA, Airport Security Force (ASF), Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), airlines, aviation training institutes and other key industry stakeholders.

Designed to enhance aviation security, the course focuses on identifying emerging threats, improving risk assessment techniques and strengthening mitigation strategies in line with both national regulations and international aviation security standards.

Addressing the opening session, Director Aviation Security & Facilitation PCAA, Air Commodore  Shahid Qadir, welcomed the UK delegation and expressed appreciation to UK DfT Program Delivery Officer for Pakistan, Mohammed Abdul Gaffar, for facilitating the training initiative.

Officials highlighted that the program reflects the long-standing partnership between the PCAA and the UK Department for Transport. Through this collaboration, Pakistan has received technical assistance, internationally sponsored training opportunities and specialized aviation security equipment, helping improve the country’s aviation security framework.

Speaking at the event, Mohammed Abdul Gaffar reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in strengthening its aviation security capabilities and institutional capacity.

The initiative follows another major achievement for the PCAA. In 2025, its Directorate of Aviation Security & Facilitation became the first department within the authority to receive an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) award for Aviation Security Oversight, recognizing Pakistan’s exceptional performance in aviation security oversight among ICAO’s 193 member states.
