The investigation into the death of Mir Raza Ali took a sharp turn Tuesday after the taxi driver who transported him on his final night came forward. Investigators had been searching for the driver for weeks, hoping to piece together the hours leading up to the discovery of Ali’s body.

The driver, who spoke to police on the condition of anonymity, described a man who appeared “distressed and constantly checking his phone.” He told detectives that Ali insisted on being dropped off two blocks away from his actual destination, a detail that has left investigators re-evaluating the timeline of his final movements.

Police have long struggled with gaps in the surveillance footage surrounding the area where Ali was last seen. The driver’s account provides the first credible eyewitness testimony that places Ali in the vicinity of the district at 2:15 a.m., nearly an hour later than previous estimates suggested.

“He didn’t speak much,” the driver told investigators. “But he seemed to be waiting for someone, or perhaps running from something. He kept looking back at the street behind us.”

The defense team for the primary suspects in the case has already signaled they will challenge the driver’s credibility. They argue that witness memories are unreliable after this much time has passed. Meanwhile, lead investigators are cross-referencing the driver’s statement with cellular tower data retrieved late last week.

If the driver’s timeline holds, it contradicts the alibi provided by the two main suspects currently in custody. The police commissioner confirmed that they are now reviewing new CCTV angles from a nearby private parking garage, hoping to capture the vehicle mentioned in the driver’s statement.

For the family of Mir Raza Ali, the new details offer a sliver of hope that the investigation is finally moving beyond speculation. They have spent months pushing for more transparency from local authorities, often frustrated by the slow pace of evidence collection.

The driver’s statement is currently being transcribed for the formal court record. Whether it serves as the smoking gun or merely another lead in a complex case will be determined when the trial resumes on Monday.
