ISLAMABAD: The government is preparing to mobilise one million young people as community volunteers for campaigns focused on education, health and other social challenges across Pakistan.

The initiative is aimed at using young volunteers at the grassroots level to support efforts addressing low literacy, childhood malnutrition and other community needs. Volunteers are expected to help connect government programmes with local communities and encourage greater public participation.

Under the planned initiative, volunteers could play an important role in spreading awareness about education and health, particularly in communities where government services may not reach effectively. Their involvement is also expected to strengthen community-level engagement and help authorities identify local needs.

The programme reflects growing recognition of the role young people can play in addressing major social challenges. With Pakistan continuing to face gaps in literacy, healthcare access and nutrition, a large volunteer network could provide additional support for awareness and outreach activities.

Volunteers may also contribute to campaigns designed to encourage families to send children to school, promote healthy practices and improve awareness about available public services.

The government’s plan comes as Pakistan seeks broader community participation in development programmes. Mobilising young people could provide authorities with a large grassroots network capable of reaching households and communities more effectively.

Officials believe the initiative can turn the energy and skills of young Pakistanis into a community-driven support system for education and health campaigns.

The one-million-volunteer target, if successfully implemented, would represent a major expansion of organised youth participation in social development activities across the country.
