TAXILA: Police have made a major development in the investigation into the killing of TikToker Shamsoo Bibi, also known as Ayesha, concluding that she was allegedly targeted in an honour-related attack by close relatives.
Shamsoo Bibi was shot dead in Taxila on the evening of August 14, while her sister and brother were seriously injured in the incident.
Police said two alleged attackers have been arrested after investigators traced them using CCTV footage and modern technological methods.
According to investigators, CCTV footage showed two men riding a motorcycle and opening fire on a car. Shamsoo Bibi suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and died at the scene.
A case was initially registered at Taxila police station on charges of murder and attempted murder. Police have now begun the process of adding the relevant legal provision concerning honour killings.
Investigators also claimed that a family jirga was allegedly held in Dir to discuss the killing. More than 100 people reportedly attended the gathering, where the task of carrying out the attack was allegedly assigned to Shamsoo Bibi’s cousins.
Police further alleged that the victim’s father and brother were also present during the meeting where the alleged plan was discussed.
The investigation initially followed a different direction after Shamsoo Bibi’s father reportedly told authorities that the killing was linked to a financial dispute.
According to the first information report, Shamsoo Bibi was allegedly involved in a financial dispute with Kausar and Javed, alias Shaheen. The report also stated that she had repeatedly informed family members about threats to her life.
However, investigators later reached the preliminary conclusion that the alleged motive was linked to honour rather than the reported financial dispute.
Police said further investigation is continuing, while senior officials, including the SSP Investigation, SSP Operations and SP Potohar, are expected to brief the media on the latest developments.
