LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has directed Aitchison College to introduce clearer and more transparent merit-based policies for student leadership positions.
The governor, who also serves as president of the college’s Board of Governors, called for clearly defined eligibility requirements and selection procedures for positions such as prefects, head boys and other student leaders.
The proposed policies are expected to outline selection criteria, tenure periods, codes of conduct and responsibilities associated with student leadership roles.
The governor also directed the institution to ensure fairness in the appointment of housemasters and the promotion of academic and administrative staff.
The move follows concerns raised by some parents regarding alleged favouritism and lack of transparency in the selection of student leaders and other academic matters.
The Aitchison College Old Boys’ Association, however, has defended the institution’s existing procedures and rejected allegations that its student leadership and academic recognition systems are not merit-based.
The governor has directed that the revised policies be presented before the Board of Governors and subsequently made public through the college’s official platforms.
