A senior officer at Lahore’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) is under investigation following allegations that he assaulted a young woman and recorded the incident on his mobile phone. The case, which has triggered widespread outrage, surfaced after the victim’s family approached the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, demanding immediate legal action.

The accused officer, identified as an inspector, reportedly summoned the woman to the CIA center under the guise of an investigation. Once inside his office, the victim alleges he locked the door, subjected her to physical assault, and filmed the ordeal.

“He told me it was part of the interrogation process,” the victim stated in her formal complaint to the police high command. “Then he pulled out his phone.”

The incident highlights a persistent issue within Punjab’s law enforcement: the abuse of power behind closed doors. While the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy for custodial misconduct, activists argue that internal accountability mechanisms rarely hold senior officers to the same standards as lower-ranking personnel.

Lahore police officials confirmed that an inquiry committee has been formed to review the allegations. The inspector has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation, and his mobile device has been seized for forensic analysis to determine if the alleged video exists.

Legal experts monitoring the case point to a significant hurdle: the internal nature of the investigation. Without an independent oversight body, victims of police brutality often find themselves navigating a system designed to protect the institution rather than the individual.

“Suspension is a standard procedural step, not a conviction,” said one criminal defense lawyer familiar with the department’s operations. “Real justice depends on whether the department allows the evidence to be presented in court or if it gets buried in an internal file.”

The victim’s family is now pushing for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under non-bailable sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. For now, the officer remains off the roster as the provincial police chief faces mounting pressure to demonstrate that no badge grants immunity from the law.
