KARACHI: Two women, including an 11-year-old girl, were killed in separate traffic accidents in Karachi on Tuesday, while five people were injured in other road incidents across the city.

In the Bhains Colony area, a dumper truck struck a motorcycle carrying a young man and his two sisters near Road No. 6, killing one of the girls. The victim was identified as 11-year-old Iman, while her brother and other sister escaped unharmed.

Following the accident, angry residents pelted the dumper with stones and smashed its windscreen. Police from the Sukhun station reached the scene and brought the situation under control. The girl’s body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre with the assistance of Edhi volunteers.

Sukhun SHO Irfan Ali said the dumper driver fled the scene. Police impounded the vehicle and moved it to the police station, while efforts were under way to trace the driver.

In a separate incident near Tariq Road, a woman in her mid-50s was critically injured after being struck by an unidentified vehicle. She was taken to Jinnah Hospital but died during treatment. Rescue officials said the woman was a pedestrian, and her identity had not been established at the time of the report. Police were investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was seriously injured when a water tanker struck him near the Akhtar Colony signal on Main Korangi Road. The injured man was identified as 50-year-old Alana and was taken to Jinnah Hospital by Chhipa volunteers for treatment.

Defence police impounded the water tanker after its driver fled the scene.

In another accident near the Baiko petrol pump on the Northern Bypass in Baldia, a speeding truck went out of control, overturned and fell onto an unpaved roadside area. Police and Chhipa rescue workers reached the scene and shifted three injured men to Civil Hospital. They were identified as 30-year-old Haider, 25-year-old Faisal and 35-year-old Laraib.

Two more people were injured when a taxi struck the footpath on the Gulbai–Sher Shah Bridge. The injured passengers, identified as 45-year-old Aurangzeb and 40-year-old Ayaz, were taken to Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Police are investigating the reported accidents and pursuing drivers who fled the scenes.
