Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk says he regrets some of his fiery posts targeting U.S. President Donald Trump during their recent online feud.
“They went too far,” Musk wrote on his platform X, referring to the posts he made criticizing Trump and his policies.
The drama began when Musk publicly opposed Trump’s new tax bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination,” and urged Americans to pressure lawmakers to block it, warning it could trigger a recession in the latter half of the year.
Tensions peaked when Musk, without evidence, claimed Trump appeared in unreleased files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The White House dismissed the claims, and Trump hit back saying:
“He’s lost his mind.”
Trump even threatened to cancel Musk’s $38 billion government contracts, primarily tied to SpaceX. In a separate interview, the President accused Musk of disrespecting the office of the presidency.
Over the weekend, Musk quietly deleted several controversial posts — including one demanding Trump’s impeachment — sparking speculation of reconciliation.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Trump said:
“I think he feels very badly that he said that. I was a little disappointed, but there are no hard feelings.”
Despite the public fallout, both sides seem to be signaling a cooldown. Musk, who was Trump’s biggest donor in the 2024 election campaign and once served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), still wields massive influence in Washington. Though he stepped down just 129 days into the role, many of his appointees remain in federal agencies.
Former Trump aide Steve Bannon went so far as to call for Musk’s deportation, while Vice President JD Vance confirmed that Trump doesn’t want a prolonged rift.
As Republicans push for the two powerful figures to reconcile, Democrats are watching the drama unfold — with popcorn in hand.
