Istanbul hosts OIC summit to address Isr@el Ir-an conflict and regional stability

ISTANBUL As tensions between Israel and Iran reach a boiling point, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convenes in Istanbul today  (Saturday) for its 51st Council of Foreign Ministers session, drawing unprecedented attendance and international attention.

The summit, themed “The OIC in a Transforming World,” brings together more than 40 foreign ministers from the OIC’s 57 member states, with total participation estimated at over 1,000 the highest turnout in the organisation’s history. The gathering underscores the urgency of the regional crisis and the need for a unified diplomatic front.

In parallel, the Arab League’s extraordinary council of ministers is also holding meetings in Istanbul ahead of the main OIC summit, reinforcing calls for de-escalation and joint action. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is attending both events, as Iran’s response to Israeli strikes remains a focal point of concern.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will deliver the summit’s opening remarks, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to address the assembly. High level delegations from countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Iraq, Jordan, Indonesia, and Qatar are also in attendance.

The summit aims to strengthen Islamic unity and develop coordinated strategies in response to the growing conflict, with broader discussions expected on regional security and the implications of Israeli military actions.

Arab leaders are urging restraint and diplomatic solutions, as the international community watches closely for outcomes that could shape the region’s trajectory in the coming weeks.
