Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Azerbaijan on Thursday to participate in the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, being held in Khankendi under the theme: “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future.”
Leading Pakistan’s delegation, the premier is expected to share Pakistan’s stance on major regional and global challenges while reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to ECO Vision 2025.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif will:

Advocate for intra-regional trade

Promote transport and energy connectivity

Hold bilateral meetings with ECO member leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest
Background on ECO
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is the successor of the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), formed in 1964 by Pakistan, Iran, and Turkiye, and restructured as ECO in 1985.
With 10 member states, ECO serves as a vital platform for enhancing regional integration, connecting Asia to Europe, Eurasia to the Arab world, and north to south.
In 2017, Pakistan hosted the 13th ECO Summit, where the leaders of the member countries adopted the ECO Vision 2025, aiming for a stronger regional partnership in trade, energy, and infrastructure.
