A new development has emerged in the case involving the alleged embezzlement of 20 kilograms of gold from the Ichhra jewellery market in Lahore.
According to police sources, trader Waseem Akhtar allegedly disappeared after taking gold belonging not only to several jewellers but also to his stepmother, Gulreeza Akhtar. On her complaint, another case has been registered against the suspect at Ichhra Police Station.
The complainant stated that she had entrusted more than 2.5 kilograms of gold to Waseem Akhtar for safekeeping. The estimated value of the entrusted gold exceeds Rs74.2 million.
Police officials said that a total of seven cases have so far been registered in connection with the disappearance of 20 kilograms of gold. Authorities have also obtained the travel history of the nominated suspect and expressed confidence that he would be arrested soon.
