A new polio case has been reported from the Torghar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to details, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad has confirmed a new polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of cases in the province this year to 19.
The poliovirus has been confirmed in a 12 month old child from Union Council Ghari of Torghar district. Other cases have been reported as follows: four each from districts Lakki Marwat, Tank, and North Waziristan; three from Bannu; two from Torghar; and one each from Dera Ismail Khan and Lower Kohistan.
This brings the total number of polio cases reported across the country this year to 30 including 19 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan.
The National Institute of Health confirmed the presence of poliovirus in the recently affected child from Union Council Ghari of Torghar district.
According to the Emergency Operations Center, this is the first polio case of the year reported from Torghar district.
With the confirmation of this new case, the total number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 19 for the year.
