Bad Air Keeps Lahore Among World’s Most Polluted Cities

Lahore Remains Among World’s Most Polluted Cities Amid Rising Smog Levels

Lahore continues to grapple with hazardous air quality, securing the third spot on the global Air Quality Index (AQI) due to persistent smog and pollution. The city’s air quality has once again reached unhealthy levels, raising health concerns among residents and environmental experts alike.

According to the latest AQI readings, particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations in Lahore have far exceeded the safe limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO). Thick layers of smog have blanketed the city, reducing visibility and forcing citizens to limit outdoor activities.

Environmental specialists link the worsening pollution to vehicle emissions, industrial waste, and the widespread burning of crop residues in Punjab’s agricultural zones. Despite repeated warnings, the combination of seasonal changes and human negligence continues to intensify air pollution across the region.

Authorities have advised people to wear masks, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, and use air purifiers indoors. Schools and offices have also been urged to implement preventive measures to safeguard public health.

Experts warn that without strict enforcement of environmental laws and a shift toward cleaner energy practices, Lahore’s air crisis could deepen further, posing long-term threats to respiratory health and urban sustainability.
