Dubai: Skywatchers across the UAE are in for a treat as the Beaver Supermoon, the biggest and brightest full moon of 2025, will rise on November 5, glowing 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual.
According to Khadijah Hasan Ahmed from the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG), the moon will appear most stunning at moonrise around 5:17pm, glowing orange and golden before turning white as it climbs higher.
The Beaver Supermoon named after the time when beavers build their winter dams marks the year’s peak lunar event, with the moon at its closest point to Earth.
MDAG will host a public viewing session at Al Awir Second Park from 7pm to 9pm, featuring an astronomy talk, Q&A, and telescope sessions to view lunar craters and nearby planets like Saturn and Jupiter. Tickets range from Dh100 to Dh120 via the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre website.
2025 has already thrilled astronomy fans with several celestial highlights, including a total lunar eclipse in September. The Beaver Supermoon wraps up a spectacular lunar year for the UAE’s night sky watchers.
