If you are fond of burgers, pizzas, or other junk foods, it’s time to be cautious as consuming these foods continuously for just a few days can be harmful to your brain.
This revelation comes from a recent medical study conducted by the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in the United States.
According to the research, our diet affects brain health far more than we realize, and junk food disrupts the brain’s memory system, increasing the risk of memory impairment.
During the experiment, researchers fed mice a diet extremely high in fat and oil content.
The results revealed that consuming such food for only four days began to produce negative effects on brain cells.
Researchers stated that while it was already known that diet and metabolism are linked to brain health, it was surprising how quickly certain brain cells became vulnerable to the effects of junk food.
They further explained that these cells started altering their activity rapidly, which immediately increased the risk of memory decline.
According to the study, consuming fatty fast food can have an instant negative impact on the brain an effect that appears even before visible weight gain or diseases like diabetes develop.
Moreover, the brain’s memory system is highly sensitive to diet, proving how crucial a balanced and healthy diet is for maintaining brain health.
Experts warned that regularly consuming high-fat junk foods can not only impair memory but also raise the risk of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia over time.
It is worth mentioning that in May 2025, a study conducted by McMaster University in Canada also revealed that excessive junk food consumption is linked to high blood pressure, cholesterol, weight gain, and abdominal obesity.
The study analyzed data from more than 6,000 adults from different regions of Canada.
The findings showed that individuals who rely heavily on ultra-processed foods consume very few fruits and vegetables.
Such individuals were found to have higher rates of obesity, belly fat, high blood pressure, elevated blood lipids, and insulin resistance compared to those who maintain a balanced diet.
According to the study, ultra-processed foods not only increase the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes but also contribute to heart disease, high cholesterol, and inflammation in the body.
