An illegal kidney transplant network has been exposed in Punjab. According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA), a group involved in illegal kidney transplants has been arrested in Sheikhupura.

‎The spokesperson stated that an illegal kidney transplant was being conducted at a private hospital on Faisalabad Road. Eight individuals, including a doctor and two women, have been taken into custody.

‎Among those arrested are operation theatre technicians, agents, and support staff. A kidney was removed from a resident of Sheikhupura and was being transplanted into an African national. The group had charged 7 million rupees for the illegal procedure.
