Rawalpindi: A suspect wanted in multiple child abuse cases was killed during an exchange of fire with police in the Ratta Amral area on Friday.
According to police, a raid was conducted after receiving information about the presence of the accused. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party, resulting in a brief encounter. One of the attackers—identified as Muhammad Abbas—was critically injured and later died at the hospital. Police also recovered a weapon from his possession, while two other accomplices managed to escape.
Officials said Muhammad Abbas was wanted in the kidnapping of a minor girl and was a documented offender in several cases of abduction and assault of children in Rawalpindi and Lahore. Authorities also suspect him of involvement in numerous unreported incidents of child abuse.
During the exchange of fire, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Owais was struck by a bullet but remained unharmed due to his bulletproof vest.
Following the encounter, senior police officers reached the scene, and a search operation has been launched to track down the fleeing suspects.
