Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that Pakistan’s constitution has been reduced to a mere “toy,” alleging that the nation’s democratic and economic foundations are being weakened. Speaking at a public gathering in Mardan on Sunday, he accused political actors of buying assembly members to secure a two-thirds majority for the 27th constitutional amendment, which he said was passed through a “fabricated mandate.”
Fazl argued that the country’s economy has been pushed into a state of collapse and insisted that his political struggle is driven by ideology, not personal gain. He urged the government to restore the fundamental rights of citizens, stressing that people deserve dignity, justice, and equal opportunities.
Discussing regional relations, he said both Pakistan and Afghanistan must rethink their policies to ensure long term peace. He added that he envisions a country where every citizen can “breathe freely” without fear or instability.
