If you take multivitamins daily, it is worth knowing that this habit may slow the journey toward aging. This was revealed in a medical study conducted in the United States.
Research conducted at Mass General Brigham Hospital found that daily use of multivitamins for two years slows the pace of biological aging.
It should be noted that while a person’s age is usually determined by date of birth (chronological age), medically there is also a biological age that reflects the condition of physical and mental functions.
Genes, lifestyle, and other factors affect this biological age, and the higher it is, the greater the risk of developing various diseases.
The study included 958 healthy individuals with an average age of 70 years. These individuals were divided into four groups and were given different supplements to use.
One group was asked to take cocoa extract and multivitamins, the second group cocoa extract and a multivitamin placebo, the third group cocoa extract placebo and multivitamins, while the fourth group was instructed to take two placebos.
At the beginning of the study, blood samples of the participants were collected and then collected again after one year and two years. Analysis of these samples revealed that the use of multivitamins reduced the rate of increase in biological age.
According to the researchers, overall the biological age of the participants decreased by about four months during the two year period. They further stated that this effect was more noticeable in individuals whose biological age was increasing more rapidly.
However, they said that further research is needed in this regard to fully confirm the results. According to the researchers, the use of multivitamins does not cause any harm.
The results of this research were published in the journal Nature Medicine.
