Do you also feel sleepy throughout the day even after getting a full night’s sleep? If so, you may be suffering from a rare sleep disorder known as Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH).
People affected by this condition require an excessive amount of sleep. Even after sleeping for long hours, they don’t feel refreshed and often remain confused or groggy.
According to the UK-based charity Hypersomnolence UK, fewer than one in 25,000 people in the country suffer from this condition. Since it often goes undiagnosed, thousands of people remain unaware that they may be living with it.
Past studies have suggested that this condition may be as common as epilepsy or bipolar disorder.
Currently, the exact causes of this disorder remain unknown, but experts believe it is likely a neurological problem — and unfortunately, there is still no known cure for it.
