KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Corporate Crime Circle has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in illegal currency exchange operations at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the operation was carried out under the directives of the Director General FIA as part of an ongoing crackdown against hawala, hundi, and unauthorized currency trading networks.
The arrested individuals, identified as Usama Abid and Mahmood Butt, were taken into custody from the airport parking area. FIA officials recovered foreign and local currency worth over Rs28 million from their possession.
The spokesperson added that the suspects were running unlicensed currency exchange activities. Mobile phones and other evidence related to illegal transactions were also seized. The accused failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the recovered currency.
Further investigations are underway, and raids are being conducted to apprehend their accomplices.
