KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two suspects during separate operations against hawala-hundi and illegal currency exchange in the city. According to the FIA spokesperson, the operations were conducted under the directives of the Director General.
The suspects, identified as Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh and Muhammad Siddiq, were apprehended from Shahrah-e-Faisal’s Shaheed Millat area and Karachi Airport parking. The FIA recovered foreign and local currency, including 50,000 UAE dirhams, 27,270 Saudi riyals, 800 US dollars, and Rs466,000 in cash.
Officials said mobile phones and other evidence linked to unlawful currency trading were also seized. The arrested men failed to provide a legal explanation regarding the recovered money. Further investigations are underway, while raids are being conducted to trace their accomplices.
