Karachi – June 14, 2025: The Karachi Safe City project has achieved its first major breakthrough as surveillance cameras flagged and helped arrest a suspect driving a vehicle with a fake number plate in the Arambagh area.
According to officials, the vehicle was identified through the project’s advanced camera network, which immediately alerted authorities. The suspect was apprehended on-site, and a criminal case has been registered.
This marks the first operational success of the Safe City system, which is designed to enhance law enforcement through real-time surveillance and digital monitoring. The arrest follows a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister, during which he directed the immediate activation of the full camera network and ordered strict legal action against violators.
Director General Safe City, Asif Ijaz Sheikh, confirmed this as the project’s first enforcement action. “This incident demonstrates the potential of our surveillance system in detecting criminal activity,” he stated.
Following the arrest, the Chief Minister instructed the Inspector General of Sindh Police and the DG Safe City to expand the use of surveillance for round-the-clock monitoring and enforcement across Karachi. The Safe City initiative aims to improve public safety by monitoring suspicious vehicles, ensuring traffic compliance, and aiding criminal investigations.
