Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the Stroke and Paralysis Management Program in Punjab, bringing a new revolution in the healthcare system.
Under the program, stroke centers will be established in every district of Punjab, where trained doctors and modern machinery will ensure immediate treatment for stroke patients.
According to the Chief Minister of Punjab, this program will ensure that no stroke patient has to travel to a distant city in a life threatening situation. Reaching a nearby hospital within four hours can save a patient from lifelong disability. These four hours are known as the golden hour.
In this regard, stroke centers will be established in phases across Punjab. First, centers will be set up in 30 hospitals, followed by 15, and finally in the remaining 24 district hospitals, equipped with modern facilities. Expert neurologists and pediatric neurologists will be appointed in every district, and CT scan machines will be available round the clock.
Furthermore, the latest TPA and TNK injections will be provided for stroke treatment, and doctors will receive special training to administer injections immediately in emergencies. This training is targeted to be completed by mid February.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also announced an effective awareness campaign to inform the public about stroke symptoms and the importance of immediate treatment, stating that her vision is to provide emergency care to every patient at the nearest hospital.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said she wants no patient to be forced to travel to a far off city in an emergency. Stroke centers are being established in every district, and gradually this facility will be expanded to the tehsil level.
She added that this initiative will create a new roadmap for Punjab’s healthcare system and will prove to be a life saving revolution for stroke patients, protecting them from disability.
