After Punjab’s rivers surged, Sindh has now begun experiencing increased water flows in its rivers. According to the National Emergency Operations Center, Sukkur Barrage is witnessing a high flood situation, while Kotri Barrage is seeing a low flood level with potential threat of escalation.
At Guddu Barrage, flows are at a medium flood stage.
Heavy rains in the upcountry are expected to cause further increases in river flows across the country. Flash floods in mountainous streams and torrents are also likely.
Over the next two days, thunderstorms and rain are forecast in the Lahore, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Gujrat divisions. Other divisions including Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Zhob may also see intermittent rainfall.
NDMA and other relevant agencies are closely monitoring the situation and putting timely measures in place. In areas with strong currents, avoid crossing waterlogged roads, bridges and streambeds.
Residents in flood-prone zones should stay tuned to official alerts via TV, mobile notifications, and the Disaster Alert app by NDMA for guidance and warnings.
