KARACHI: The Sindh health department has launched a comprehensive monitoring and accountability drive following the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench directive, aiming to reform hospital management and improve service delivery under the leadership of Health Secretary Rehan Iqbal Baloch.
The high-level meeting chaired by the Health Secretary reviewed the court’s directives and finalized key actions to enhance efficiency and discipline in public healthcare institutions. The meeting decided to immediately activate biometric attendance systems across all government hospitals to ensure doctors’ presence and transparency in staff attendance.
Rehan Iqbal Baloch ordered strict action against government doctors found engaged in private practice during official hours, emphasizing that violations will not be tolerated. He also directed a comprehensive verification drive to identify fake and absentee employees, signaling a zero-tolerance policy for negligence and corruption in the health sector.
The Secretary instructed that 24-hour cardiac treatment facilities be operationalized at all District Headquarters (DHQ) and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals to improve emergency care for cardiac patients in rural and urban areas.
Furthermore, the department has implemented stringent measures to prevent theft, misuse, or illegal sale of government medicines. The Secretary emphasized the need to maintain adequate stocks of essential medicines and ensure the availability of critical medical equipment across all hospitals to guarantee uninterrupted patient care.
Detailed reports regarding vacant posts, staff attendance, and facility readiness have been sought from all health offices. All reports must be submitted to the Health Secretary by October 23, 2025, to ensure swift implementation of reforms.
These reforms reflect the Sindh Health Department’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and strengthening public trust in government healthcare services. The initiative aligns with the province’s broader vision to improve health governance, enhance hospital management systems, and deliver quality healthcare to citizens.
