The Indus River at Guddu Barrage is witnessing a rapid surge in water flow, triggering a high-level flood situation. According to the Irrigation Department’s control room, inflow at the barrage has been recorded at 544,658 cusecs, while outflow stands at 514,051 cusecs.

Reports indicate that within the past 24 hours, the water level has risen by 31,996 cusecs, and experts warn that it may increase further in the next 24 hours.

The elevated water level has completely inundated the riverine (katcha) areas. Hundreds of acres of standing crops, including cotton, cluster beans, and rice, have been destroyed, leaving farmers to face massive losses.

Rescue teams along with local administration are actively engaged in evacuating residents to safer locations. Officials have also advised people living in low-lying areas to move out immediately.

Experts caution that if the inflow of water does not decrease, the flood situation could become even more critical in the coming days.
