The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, captained by Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim, have created history by qualifying for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoffs for the very first time.
The breakthrough came after a dramatic four-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence Stadium. Choosing to bowl first, Imad’s decision paid off immediately as pacer Jayden Seales ripped through the Warriors’ top order, claiming four wickets in a fiery spell. Usama Mir, Pakistan’s leg-spinner, backed him up with three crucial strikes that left Guyana reeling and bowled out for just 99 runs.
Chasing the modest target, the Falcons didn’t have it easy. Early wickets put them under pressure, but opener Amir Jangoo played a calm, match-winning innings of 51 not out, guiding his side home with grit and composure. His knock ensured the Falcons crossed the line with four wickets to spare, booking their ticket to the knockout stage.
For a franchise that had struggled in previous seasons, this qualification is nothing short of a milestone. Under Imad Wasim’s leadership, the Falcons have shown better balance and resilience. His tactical call to unleash pace upfront and use spin smartly in the middle overs proved to be the difference in a low-scoring contest.
The victory sparked celebrations among fans in Antigua, who now see their team among the CPL’s elite for the first time. With the playoffs approaching, Imad’s side will be aiming to carry this momentum forward and chase what once seemed impossible — a shot at their maiden CPL title.
