An Islamabad district and sessions court has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a long-pending case involving liquor and illegal weapons.
Rejecting Gandapur’s plea for exemption from appearance, the court ordered authorities to arrest and produce him before July 21. The judge also granted a final opportunity for the PTI leader to record his statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The court warned that a verdict may be delivered in his absence if he continues to avoid proceedings, potentially forfeiting his right to testify.
Emphasising that the case has remained pending for eight years, the court criticised Gandapur for deliberately evading the legal process. It also clarified that a previous Peshawar High Court ruling does not prevent the issuance of arrest orders.
The hearing was adjourned till July 21 — just days after Gandapur had launched PTI’s anti-government protest drive from Lahore, aimed to culminate by August 5 on the instructions of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan.
