The highly publicized boxing showdown between social-media star Jake Paul and world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis has been officially called off, just ten days before the scheduled November 14 bout in Miami.
The decision came after serious assault allegations surfaced against Davis, prompting Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and Netflix, which were co-producing the fight, to withdraw their support.
Allegations and Investigation
According to court documents obtained by Reuters, a civil lawsuit filed last week accuses Davis of battery, aggravated battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The complaint was filed by Davis’s former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, who alleges the incident occurred on October 27 at a Miami strip club. Police in Miami Gardens confirmed that an active investigation is underway.
While Davis has not issued a detailed public response, his legal team has called the accusations “false and defamatory,” insisting he will clear his name in court. However, the mounting controversy made the event untenable for its backers.
Promotion and Streaming Partners Pull Out
In a joint statement, MVP and Netflix said they decided to cancel the fight “out of respect for the seriousness of the allegations and the safety of everyone involved.”
The move marks the first major cancellation of a Netflix-streamed sports event since the platform began experimenting with live boxing. The fight was projected to be one of the most-watched crossover events of the year.
Jake Paul reacted swiftly on social media, writing:
“Tank Davis is a walking human piece of garbage. I’ll never share a ring or platform with an abuser. Justice will be served.”
Paul also confirmed that he still plans to fight before the end of 2025, with MVP working to secure a new opponent and date.
Fan Refunds and Future Plans
Fans who purchased tickets for the Miami fight will receive full refunds, according to MVP officials. Netflix also confirmed that all pre-orders for the live event will be automatically credited back to viewers.
MVP said in a statement:
“Jake Paul remains committed to giving fans an exciting boxing event in 2025. We’re already in talks with several potential opponents.”
Industry insiders expect Paul’s next bout to take place in the first quarter of 2026, though no official details have been released.
A Major Blow to Crossover Boxing
The Paul-Davis fight was touted as one of the biggest boxing spectacles of 2025 — a blend of celebrity hype and world-class talent that promised record-breaking viewership.
But the abrupt cancellation underscores how quickly high-profile sports ventures can collapse when legal or ethical controversies arise.
It also renews questions about accountability in combat sports, especially when serious allegations emerge against athletes at the height of their careers.
For now, Jake Paul’s comeback story continues, but for Gervonta Davis, the focus has shifted from the ring to the courtroom — and possibly, to the biggest fight of his life.
