ISLAMABAD: Journalist Khalid Jamil was taken into custody by the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) from his residence in Media Town, Islamabad, on Friday evening. The agency confirmed the arrest, stating it was carried out after completing legal formalities, though no further details have been made public.
According to sources, a case had been registered against Jamil earlier this year, but its specifics have not yet been disclosed. News of his arrest surfaced on social media, with journalist Asad Ali Toor posting on X that officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and NCCIA had picked him up. Lawyer Khalid Yousuf Chaudry, who represents PTI founder Imran Khan, also shared a video of the incident, alleging that Jamil was taken without a warrant at 6:36 pm, and neither an FIR nor an arrest warrant was presented at the scene.
This is not the first time Jamil has faced action from authorities. In September 2023, the FIA arrested him over accusations of propagating anti-state narratives online. He was booked under Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly posting “intimidating content” on X and was released on bail a week later.
Currently unaffiliated with any media house, Jamil operates his own YouTube channel and frequently appears on television as a political analyst, where he comments on human rights, governance, and issues of political repression.
