A six day campaign to eliminate intestinal worms among children will begin in Karachi from January 5, during which six million children will be given preventive medication against intestinal worms.
Boys and girls aged five to fourteen years will be given the medication. During the campaign, girls aged fifteen to eighteen years will also be administered the dose.
The campaign will be carried out in government and private schools as well as through door to door visits. More than ten thousand health workers will take part in the campaign.
Senior Program Manager of the Pakistan Deworming Initiative, Qadeer Baig, said that this is the second launch of the campaign in Karachi. He said the campaign will take place next week and it is not a small program.
He said that so far fifty million children have been covered under the initiative. Around two hundred and fifty thousand teachers and health workers are involved in it, and two hundred and thirty seven thousand schools are part of the program.
