Karachi: A young shopkeeper was shot dead by fleeing robbers while attempting to stop them after a robbery in Korangi district, police said on Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred in the limits of Alfalah Police Station near Shamsi Society, where two armed suspects looted a plastic bags and disposable items shop before escaping on a motorcycle. While fleeing, the suspects fell into a ditch a short distance away, prompting local residents to try to apprehend them.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Muhammad Shoaib son of Muhammad Aslam, also rushed from his shop to help catch the suspects. During a scuffle, one of the robbers opened fire, killing Shoaib on the spot with a bullet to the neck, after which the suspects managed to escape.
Police reached the scene shortly after the incident and collected bullet casings and other forensic evidence. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre by a welfare ambulance for legal formalities.
The SHO of Alfalah Police Station stated that efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and arrest the suspects.
Shoaib, the eldest among four siblings, was the sole breadwinner of his family. Taking notice of the incident, the Inspector General of Sindh Police has sought a detailed report from DIG East.
The victim’s brother alleged a lack of police patrolling in the area and demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible for the killing.
