In Rawalpindi, police made key progress in the murder case of Sidra, allegedly killed on the orders of a jirga.
Police recovered Sidra’s mobile phone and purse on the indication of her husband, Ziaur Rehman. The phone will undergo forensic testing, and call data will be obtained.
Earlier, police said jirga leader Ismatullah ordered Sidra’s killing. She was strangled to death between July 17 and 18 and buried. From July 11 to 16, Ismatullah was active in the jirga. A video of him firing shots in the market also surfaced. He is now in police custody.
Police sources said Sidra, 19, was married in January. Her husband filed an FIR on July 21, four days after the murder, claiming she had run away and married another man named Usman.
Police also arrested three people accused of helping in the murder. Evidence recovered from them included grave receipts, a spade, and other items, found with the help of a gravedigger, cemetery secretary, and rickshaw driver.
