Renowned Pakistani writer and poet Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has strongly responded to criticism directed at his dramas, taking particular aim at television host and actress Nadia Khan.
Speaking in an interview on journalist Ambreen Fatima’s YouTube channel, Qamar said Nadia Khan has no connection to acting and lacks command over both Urdu and English. “I never even considered working with her,” he remarked, adding that he prefers actors who can perform in pure Urdu, as that is the foundation of Pakistan’s drama industry.
Qamar acknowledged criticism from senior actors Maria Khan and Atiqa Odho, but noted he has never worked with them. “Their critique is valid to some extent. Once they improve their Urdu, I would love to collaborate with them,” he said. He also recalled watching Maria Khan in classics like Tanhaiyaan and Dhoop Kinare, while mentioning Odho’s performances in Dasht and Nijaat.
The celebrated playwright, known for blockbuster serials such as Pyaray Afzal, Meray Paas Tum Ho, Sadqay Tumharay, and the recent Main Manto Nahin Hoon, said his wish is to eventually win over even his harshest critics.
