Writer and director Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has once again found himself in the spotlight after discussing his long-rumored disagreements with actors Nauman Ijaz and Mahira Khan. In a recent interview, Qamar addressed the conflicts directly, shedding new light on what went wrong and why certain professional relationships fractured over the years.
Speaking about his rift with Nauman Ijaz, Qamar said the issue began as a creative disagreement but escalated when, according to him, “words were exchanged that shouldn’t have been.” He insisted he still respects Nauman’s talent, calling him “one of the finest actors we have,” but added that mutual understanding had broken down.
“I wish things had stayed professional,” Qamar said. “But sometimes ego, schedules, or misunderstandings get in the way of good work.”
The writer’s remarks about Mahira Khan were more pointed. Their fallout dates back to the actress distancing herself from some of Qamar’s public comments, a move that turned into a broad cultural debate. Qamar acknowledged the tension but stood by his earlier criticism.
“Mahira is a hardworking actor,” he said, “but we didn’t agree on certain principles. And when principles clash, relationships suffer.”
Mahira has previously chosen not to respond directly, maintaining that she prefers not to engage in public disputes. Nauman Ijaz, too, has mostly stayed silent, though he has hinted in past interviews that “differences are natural in this line of work.”
Fans reacted quickly to Qamar’s latest comments, with some urging the industry to move past personal disagreements and others reigniting old arguments online.
Industry insiders, however, say none of the disputes are irreparable, noting that Pakistani entertainment has repeatedly seen fractured partnerships return to collaboration.
For now, Qamar appears willing to let the dust settle. “Time softens everything,” he said. “Maybe one day we’ll work together again.”
