B. P. Singh earned a special place in Indian television history through CID, the hugely popular crime investigation series that premiered in 1998. The show followed a dedicated team of investigators solving complex criminal cases through suspense, forensic evidence, interrogations, and dramatic investigations.

Over the years, CID became a household favourite, attracting audiences of different generations. Its memorable characters, gripping mysteries, and iconic dialogues helped establish it as one of India’s best-known television crime dramas.

The show’s famous characters, including ACP Pradyuman, Inspector Daya, and Inspector Abhijeet, became deeply familiar to viewers. Singh also occasionally appeared in the series as DCP Shamsher Singh Chitrole.

The programme’s remarkable longevity and enduring popularity made it an important part of India’s television culture.

In addition to CID, Singh was widely recognised for his work on Aahat, a popular horror and suspense series that began airing in the 1990s.

Through CID and Aahat, Singh demonstrated his ability to engage viewers with suspenseful narratives and memorable characters. His work continued to attract audiences through television reruns long after the original broadcasts.

From Cameraman to a Respected Television Filmmaker

His technical experience and interest in crime stories contributed to the distinctive style that audiences came to associate with his productions. He later became one of the prominent figures in Indian television’s crime and thriller genres.

Singh was also associated with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where he served as chairman from 2018 to 2020. His career extended beyond entertainment production into an important role within India’s film and television education community.
