The Lahore High Court on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on a man after the woman he claimed to have married denied the alleged relationship in court.
Justice Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan heard the petition filed by Shoaib Zafar, who stated that he had contracted a love marriage with Farida Bibi on June 6, 2025. He alleged that the woman’s parents had forcibly taken her away and were preventing her from living with him.
During an earlier hearing, the judge warned the petitioner that a fine would be imposed if the woman did not confirm his claim.
When the woman was produced before the court, she stated that she did not wish to go with the petitioner and wanted to return to her parents. Following her statement, the court ruled that the petitioner’s claim was unsubstantiated and imposed a Rs50,000 fine.
The court also ordered that the petitioner remain in police custody until the fine is paid in full.
