The federal government has decided to launch an investigation into the Pakistan Pharmacy Council, with the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission initiating the probe.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the investigation after receiving complaints of corruption within the council. During a health ministry meeting yesterday, the prime minister expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the health secretary and ordered their removal.
Sources said the prime minister expressed anger over corruption in institutions under the health ministry, adding that irregular appointments in the Pharmacy Council will be investigated, along with the establishment of pharmacy educational institutions in the country.
An inquiry will also be conducted into the registration of pharmacy schools and colleges in recent years, and a probe has been launched into the appointment of Sabghat Mansoor Rana as Assistant Secretary of the Pharmacy Council.
The Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission has sent an official letter to the Ministry of Health directing a briefing on the Pharmacy Council, and has summoned former presidents of the council as well. According to sources, the inquiry team’s meeting will be held on August 11.
