Malala Urges World Leaders to Pressure Israel to End Gaza Genocide

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has issued a powerful appeal to global leaders, urging them to exert maximum pressure on Israel to halt what she described as the “genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza.

“It makes me sick to my stomach to see Israel’s cruelty and brutality in Gaza,” Malala wrote in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“I am heartbroken seeing thousands of starving children, demolished schools and hospitals, blocked humanitarian aid and displaced families.”

Her statement came amid reports that Israel plans to expand its military operations in Gaza, aiming for full control of the Palestinian territory after months of intense air and ground assaults.

UN Warns of Looming Famine
On Tuesday, the United Nations reported that no aid had been distributed inside Gaza, despite Israel partially reopening the Kerem Shalom crossing for humanitarian shipments after an 11-week blockade. According to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, the delay stems from Israel’s requirement that supplies be offloaded and reloaded on the Palestinian side of the border, pending security clearances.

“One of our teams waited several hours for the Israeli green light. Unfortunately, they were not able to bring those supplies into our warehouse,” Dujarric stated.

The limited aid—consisting of flour, baby food, medicines, and nutritional supplies—has yet to reach Gaza’s starving population, where humanitarian experts have repeatedly warned that famine is imminent.

Israel’s Justification and Hamas’s Denial
Israeli officials have maintained that the blockade is necessary to prevent aid from falling into the hands of Hamas, which governs Gaza. Hamas has denied any interference with aid distribution.

Malala’s comments come at a time when global humanitarian organizations and several international leaders have condemned the worsening humanitarian crisis. However, efforts to broker a ceasefire or ensure consistent aid access have largely stalled.
