Malaysian girl group DOLLA has taken down their music video for the single “Question” following intense criticism from religious leaders and netizens. The backlash centered on the group’s wardrobe, which some judged as too revealing.
Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar stated that the video was under review by Islamic authorities, stressing that as role models, Muslim celebrities must act responsibly.
Universal Music Malaysia released a statement, saying it removed the video “to protect harmony and mutual respect,” and reaffirmed its commitment to balancing artistic creativity with local cultural and religious sensitivities.
The episode has sparked a wider debate about growing religious oversight in Malaysia’s entertainment industry, with critics warning of increasing self-censorship among artists.
