CUPERTINO — The tech community has been set ablaze by the most ambitious hardware leaks to date regarding Apple’s upcoming premium flagship, the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to newly surfaced regulatory filings reportedly pulled from China’s compulsory certification database, Apple is planning a historic leap in raw power capacity. The leaks suggest that the eSIM-only variant—typically sold in the United States—will pack a massive 5,567mAh battery, while the international version retaining a physical SIM slot will house a slightly smaller 5,391mAh cell. This engineering strategy relies directly on reclaiming the physical real estate previously taken up by the legacy SIM card tray, a regional split that was already seen in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If verified, these numbers directly shatter earlier, more conservative summer rumors that predicted a cap around 5,100mAh.

However, this unprecedented capacity bump is heavily heavily debated due to the structural trade-offs it imposes on the device’s physical profile. Prominent industry insiders, including Ice Universe and Instant Digital, warn that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely abandon its predecessor’s sleekness, adopting a noticeably “chunky” chassis between 9.9mm and 10.9mm thick to accommodate the massive cell, alongside a heftier overall weight clearing 240 grams. Beyond raw milliamp-hours, the ultimate real-world endurance of the upcoming flagship will rely heavily on an optimized ecosystem. The premium lineup—widely expected to debut in September 2026—will introduce the highly anticipated A20 Pro chip, manufactured on TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm node, which promises a 15% increase in CPU speeds and up to a 30% reduction in power consumption. Paired with the structural scheduler updates in iOS 27, Apple is looking to challenge next-generation Android competition without making the flagship feel entirely like a brick in the user’s hand
