A new study has revealed that guava leaves and bark possess anti inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti cancer properties.
According to William Chen, Associate Professor at the University of Delaware, a molecule found in guava may help fight liver related cancers.
Cancer Research UK reports that around 6,600 new cases of liver cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, and this figure is expected to rise to 9,700 by 2040. However, only 8% of patients survive for 10 or more years after diagnosis.
The NHS states that jaundice, skin itching, loss of appetite, cold like symptoms, and a lump on the right side of the abdomen are clear signs of liver cancer.
Currently, treatments for liver cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, and methods such as thermal ablation, targeted medicine, and radiotherapy, depending on the size and type of cancer.
However, this newly discovered molecule could pave the way for more effective and affordable treatments for liver cancer.
