MQM Pakistan has submitted a resolution in the Sindh Assembly calling for the deployment of security guards outside ATM machines during night hours, citing a rise in robbery incidents targeting citizens withdrawing cash.
The resolution was moved by MQM-P lawmakers Engineer Muhammad Usman, Shariq Jamal and Farhan Ansari. It states that ATM machines remain without security after banking hours, making late-night withdrawals unsafe.
According to the resolution, street crime incidents outside ATMs are being reported daily in several areas of Karachi. It also notes that despite widespread banking activities in cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur, security arrangements at ATM sites are inadequate.
The lawmakers added that CCTV cameras have failed to deter crime, as suspects often cover their faces and police struggle to make arrests. The resolution demands the appointment of security guards at ATMs to ensure the safety of citizens and protect their lives and property.
